When can a Bank break open your Locker

You must complete a Locker Agreement form, get it stamped in accordance with the State Stamp Act, and provide two passport-size photos of you and any joint licensees in order to use a Bank's locker facility.

However, the bank has the right to enter your locker if you don't adhere to specific rules.

The following situations, will permit a Bank to unlock your Locker:

Locker key lost due to client request

The cost of a new key will be met by the locker holder. In the presence of the locker holder(s) and the bank representative, an authorized vendor will replace the keys.

Any Law Enforcement Agency may attach to materials and reclaim them.

The bank will inform the owner of the locker in writing and by email sent to the address provided on file if government officials have contacted them about attaching, recovering, or seizing the locker or its contents.

Failure to pay the locker rental

Customers will start having their lockers broken open by the bank if they are three years in a row without paying their rent.

Lockers that are inoperable

The Bank is free to transfer the contents of the locker to the hirer's nominees or legal heirs or to dispose of the things in an open and accountable way, as may be necessary, even if the rent is being paid on time and the locker is inactive for seven years.

What happens to the material in the event of a silence

In the case of non-payment of the locker rent and an inoperative locker, the Bank will warn the locker holder in advance. If the locker holder does not react, the Bank will access the locker.

As per Bank, "If the letter is returned undeliverable, a public notice shall be published in two local leading newspapers, one of which shall be in English and another in a vernacular language, giving the locker hirer or to any other person/s who have an interest in the contents of the locker, a reasonable time to respond." The detailed inventory and any locker contents (if any) will be preserved in a sealed envelope.
