Rashtrapati Bhavan garden has been given a new identity with 'Amrit Udyan' in keeping with the theme of the year-long celebrations – Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav . The new name literally means like this - "Amrit means Nectar and also here signifies the 75 years of Indian independence - Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav". "Udyan is a sanskrit word which means garden". Designed by British architect Sir Edward Lutyens at the bidding of Lady Hardinge (the wife of the then Viceroy), earlier name of Mughal Gardens reflected to one of India’a longest ruling dynasties.
