How to File RTI in Supreme Court of India

Supreme Court RTI Portal Online

The Chief Justice of India Justice DY Chandrachud, on Thursday, 24th November 2022 announced in the open Court that Online RTI Portal of the Supreme Court is now live and publicly accessible.

With this, citizens of India can now file online RTI applications, First Appeal and to make payment for Fees, Copying Charges, etc., under the Right to Information Act, 2005 (RTI Act) with the Supreme Court on payment of Rs 10 which can be paid by Debit/Credit card or internet banking or UPI etc. An applicant under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) is exempted to pay the requisite application fee and is required to attach and upload a copy of BPL certificate. An application would be registered only after successful payment of fees.

An applicant who wish to get information under the RTI Act from public authorities, other than the Supreme Court of India, is advised to make an RTI application to the concerned Public Authorities through the respective Central/State Govt. Portal. The Online RTI portal which is www.rtionline.gov.in  operated by Department of Personnel & Training, Govt. of India caters to all Central Govt. Ministries and departments. The Supreme Court which is a public authority was not offering the facility of Online RTI application uptill now as it was said that not having such a facility by the SC was denying speedy access to information and justice. The Supreme Court RTI application would reach electronically to the Central Public Information Officer of the Supreme Court and First Appellate Authority of Supreme Court, as the case may be.

The decision to launch an online test portal was taken after running a test version of the Portal on Tuesday.
