ITR Forms for AY 2022 23, Last Date and Late Filing Fee

NEW DELHI: ITR, or income tax return, is the form that is filled by Indian taxpayers to the income tax department. It contains information about the individual's income, other sources income, investments and taxes payable during the financial year. An individual just need to make sure they are they are filing the correct ITR form applicable to them.

Types of ITR forms:

ITR-1 SAHAJ

Resident individuals who have a total income of up to Rs.50 lakh are eligible. Incomes include salaried individuals, one house property, other sources and an agricultural income of up to Rs 5,000.

ITR-2

If individuals have capital gains they acquired from sale of mutual funds, stocks or have more than one house property, they are eligible for ITR-2.

ITR-3

Individuals who have income from profits and gains of business will be eligible for ITR-3.

ITR-4

ITR-4 can be filled by those individuals and HUFs (Hindu Undivided Family) who have an income of up to Rs 50 lakh and have income from business.

ITR-5

ITR-5 should be submitted by those other than individuals, HUFs, companies or individual filing ITR-7.

ITR-6

ITR-6 should be filed by a company other than a company which is required to file returns in ITR‐7.

ITR-7

This form should be used by individuals or companies that are required to furnish returns under section 139(4A) or section 139 (4B) or section 139 (4C) or section 139 (4D).

ITR Last date 2022 23

The last date to file ITR varies for different taxpayers. For individuals whose accounts are not required to be audited, the deadline to file ITR for 2022 is July 31. For taxpayers whose accounts need to be audited, the deadline is October 31, 2022.

ITR Late filing fee

Although income tax laws allow ITR to be filed after the deadline passes, a late ITR filing fee might be levied upon. Salaried individuals must note that they need to file ITR by July 31, if they fail to do so, a penalty between Rs 1,000 and Rs 5,000 might be imposed.
