How to make UPI Payments via Credit, Debit Cards?
An individual can also add their debit or credit cards in the UPI apps to make the payments alongwith the UPI linked bank accounts. After initiating a payment through the UPI app using a debit or credit card, an OTP is sent to your registered mobile number to complete the payment.
Earlier at the starting stage of UPI, payments could be made only from a bank account by linking one's bank account to UPI (or Unified Payments Interface). Now with UPI apps, an individual can add credit and debit cards to make payments to merchants.
Crores of people are now using UPI as a way to make payments. A big reason for its popularity is that it is easy to use - just scan the QR code or enter the mobile number (linked to a default UPI address) of the person or seller whom you wish to make payment, and the payment is done instantly.
A person can easily make payment without the need to swipe it at POS machine just by adding credit or debit card to UPI apps. Just scan a QR code and choose the added credit/debit card as payment method to make the payment. Once you begin a payment via an of the UPI app using a debit or credit card, a one-time password (OTP) is sent to your registered mobile number to complete the payment.

How to Pay via Credit, Debit Card using GPay?
To pay via credit or debit card using GPay, first you have to add the cards to the UPI app. As per the GPay website, an individual can add debit, credit cards of the following banks, be sure they are operated on Visa and MasterCard payment gateways.

Steps to follow to add the Credit, Debit Card on GPay:
- Open the app and click on your profile picture.
- Click on the payment methods. Upon clicking, your current bank accounts that are added on the app will be displayed. Click on 'Add credit or debit card' to add your card on the Gpay.
- Enter your card number, expiry date, CVV and cardholder's name and billing address. Click on Save.
- Accept the terms and conditions. Click on 'Activate' to start paying in stores and to merchants.
- You will need to verify your card. A one-time password (OTP) will be sent to your registered mobile number for additional authentication. After verifying your card, you can use it to pay for transactions.
Where can you pay using Credit Card via GPay?
You can use your credit or debit card via GPay website, for the following types of transactions:
a) Tap & Pay at NFC enabled payment terminals
b) Bharat QR code-based payments at online & offline merchants
c) Bill payments and Recharges on Google Pay
d) Online payments on Myntra, Dunzo, Yatra, MagicPin, Coolwinks, EaseMyTrip, Confirmtkt android apps.
How to Pay via Credit or Debit Card using PhonePe app
- You first need to add the credit or debit card as one of the payment methods in order to pay via credit or debit card using PhonePe app. The steps to add credit, debit card on the PhonePe app is same as given above.
- Open settings of the PhonePe app, check payment methods.
- Click on 'Add new card'.
- Enter the card details, which will be verified by penny-drop method (by debiting Re 1 from your account).
After the card is successfully verified, it can be used for payments.
Payments using credit card can be made for products and services offered on PhonePe App or to PhonePe merchants and sellers. In GPay, you can add only Visa, Master-based payment gateways cards but its one more advantage using PhonePe as it allows all domestic debit, credit cards issued by Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, Diners, American Express and Rupay.
How to Pay via Credit or Debit Card using Paytm app?
Add credit or debit card in the Paytm app as told above. After the card is successfully verified, then it can be used for payments. With Paytm also, all debit, credit cards are permitted for making payments.
