Government’s SACRED Job Portal for Senior Citizens


Central Govt. has launched a first-of-its-kind dedicated online employment exchange for Senior citizens. Citizens who are more than 60 years of age and are looking for work opportunities will now be able to register on the SACRED portal from October 1.

The portal is named Senior Able Citizens for Re-Employment in Dignity (SACRED) and is developed by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

There are many reasons why senior citizens needs to work after the they have attained the age of 60. Citizens above 60 years of age can register on the Sacred portal and find jobs and work opportunities so that they can become independent and stand on their shoes once again as they used to work till the age of 60.

Social Justice and empowerment secretary R Subrahmanyam said that the SACRED website for senior citizens will provide employment opportunities for the elderly people by bringing together employers who wish to hire senior citizens for jobs and senior citizens who want to do some kind of work after the age of 60.

Ministry has written and asked various industry associations such as Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham), and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) to bring about more job oppurtunities for senior citizens.

Senior citizens who wish to apply to jobs at Sacred portal need to first register themselves at Sacred website for finding jobs. While filling the form for jobs prospects at sacred portal 
for senior citizens, they need to fill their education qualification, work experience and areas of interest. The Sacred job platform offer full-time, part-time, freelance, and pro bono opportunities to senior citizens. 

Jobs will be posted with specifics and the eligibility criteria for applicants for the recruiters.

Ministry also said that the Sacred job portal will serve as an medium for people looking for work and not as a platform guaranteeing employment.

The inter-ministerial committee had earlier allocated a budget of Rs 70 crores for the SACRED portal. Of this, Rs 10 crores was set aside to set up the exchange portal and the rest for maintenance and marketing.
