A vehicle pollution certificate for motor vehicles, also known as PUC Certificate or Pollution Under Control Certificate, acts as a validation that your vehicle emits permissible emission levels.

A PUC certificate is provided to the vehicle owner after the vehicle undergoes a PUC test successfully which is normally conducted at Petrol pumps. A valid PUC certification makes sure that your vehicle’s emissions are in alignment with standard pollution norms and are not harmful to the environment. It is mandatory for all vehicles plying on the roads in the length and breadth of India to carry a legitimate PUC or the Pollution Under Control certificate.

The application captures smoke parameter through API provided by the manufacturer, vehicle number plate through webcam, and sends OTP to the vehicle owner. PUC certificate is issued to the vehicle owner if the pollution emitted by the vehicle (petrol/diesel, four/two wheeler, trans./non-transport etc.) is as per norms.

PUC Certificate is handed to the owner of the vehicle at petrol stations. PUC certificate can be obtained online by specifying the Registration number, last 5 digits of chassis number, and a security code. Below we have given the step-by-step guide on how to get PUC certificate online.

How to Get PUC Certificate Online:

  • Visit the official website of Parivahan Sewa under Ministry of Road Transport and Highways - https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in
  • Hover your mouse over "Online Services" link at the top and click PUCC.
  • This page opens - https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/puc/
  • Click on "PUC Certificate" link at the top.
  • PUC Certificate screen opens.
  • Enter your registration number and the last 5 characters of the vehicle’s chassis number.
  • Enter security captcha code.
  • Click on PUC Details.
  • Your Pollution under control certificate is displayed on the screen if it is still under validity. You will be able to see if your PUC Certificate is active with its validity and readings. 
  • You can download and take a printout of your PUC certificate online.
