For debit and credit cards, Google Pay uses a technology called tokenisation which means Gooegle Pay application uses a digital token to authenticate your card instead of passing the actual card number to a vendor or merchant. The token is terminated once the payment is complete. Though tokenised cards feature will arrive in Google Pay in the next few weeks. The app presently supports only Visa cards from Axis Bank, HDFC, Standard Chartered Bank and State Bank of India, but more banks will be added soon which supports Mastercard and RuPay cards.

Also, Google announced a new Spots platform for Google Pay. With this, merchants and companies can create physical QR-Code and NFC-based payments cards for offline payments. Makemytrip, UrbanClap, Goibibo, RedBus, Eat.Fit and Oven Story are already available on the Spot Platform. After this, MakeMyTrip can allow ticket bookings directly through Google Pay.

Google also released Google Pay for Business that is only for small and medium sized-merchants and businesses.
