After the Sarathi 4.0 software was launched by National Informatics Centre (NIC), full process of applying and submitting the application forms for driving and licence-related services, including fee payments, has been made online by the Puducherry government.

The applicants can now apply online for Pondicherry driving licence, pay the fees online and appear for the driving tests in person. Transport commissioner S D Sundaresan said, "Applicants who are successful in their tests can download the learner's licence from the Puducherry transport department website http://transport.puducherry.gov.in".

With driving license services made online, one can also apply for change of name, address and any other correction including name in the driving licence. Mr. Sundaresan said, "Submitting application online for all services related to driving licence has been made compulsory in the entire Union territory of Puducherry."

It is important to note that applicants must furnish their mobile number so that they may able to receive driving license application status by SMS, generated automatically by the Sarathi software while applying online. Those who fill out the Pondicherry driving licence form and have given their mobile number would be sent an SMS containing their application number. Whether you are passed or failed in the learner's licence tests or driving tests would be comunicated to you by an SMS.

One can know the Application Status for their license by entering their application number and date of birth. It has been made easy for the applicants to download learner's licence by visiting the official website of Parivahan.gov.in and entering their application number and date of birth.

Thus an applicant do not require to be physically present at the RTO office to collect the learner's licence.
