Developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and based on the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) programme, FASTag implementation is seen as a measure to boost digital payments in the country which is a part of Modi Govt's ‘Digital India’ initiative. NitinGadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, said that almost 90 percent toll plazas are ready with FASTag infrastructure.
